FAQ

Who does the work?

Think of this Marketing Co-Op but for businesses in the construction industry. We book local contractors from your local community and handle the invoicing and payment. We monitor they do what you ask and don’t add on stuff you don’t need. But we can hand over your address to our service providers to get a final quote until you become a customer, which also means we can protect your consumer rights to get the job done.

To do this, we get a $50 refundable deposit to also sort out who is responsible for paying for the work to save confusion later on. This is the main reason tradies don’t turn up to even do “free quotes” for home repair jobs. We break things down into quick and easy jobs for experienced tradies to pop in and do on their way home. As a side gig for extra income. This is how we get a cheaper price for you for the outcome, without the need to pay a huge hourly rate.

While Google reviews are great, we measure how happy customers are by the number of referrals our service providers get. We know locals don’t refer family and friends if they are not happy, no matter what they tell us when we check.

How can I make money from using your system?

In our case, you don’t have to sell anything. If you hear someone complaining about problems around their home in normal conversations, just tell them what we do. Fix problems.

Word-of-mouth advertising is still the best way to grow a business, so is worth money to us as it saves our marketing bill each month.

For our approved affiliates, all your referral has to do is say your name when the book and week give you 10% of the job (ex GST) to as credit for your own jobs or you can cash it out once per month if unexpected high bills come in.

I can't afford it, can I get work done for free?

The simple answer is no, but you can earn credit by referring us to your mates (see above) that you know can afford our cost-effective basic services.

One thing we have learnt in over 30+ years in business is you don’t support your mates in business by asking them to do it for free, We also know there are mates out there that would sell you stuff you don’t really need.

We don’t do that, and keep it to basic 1 off services without the promise of ongoing work.

We do offer a payment plan, which is a loan through PayPal’s Pay in 4 programs. T&Cs apply.

We offer gift vouchers to spread the payments out over 8 weeks, sort of like a subscription service, for up to $400 of repair work over 2 months. You may even be able to bundle handyman repairs into your lawn and garden care subscription.

Gift vouchers are valid for 3 years from the time of purchase, so there is no rush to get work done. As we don’t do emergency repairs, and allow up to 2 weeks for our service providers to fit you in after you book (to keep costs lower for you), most customers are likely to use the gift vouchers over the next 2 month.

What is a "Marketing Co-Op"?

Basically a bunch of mates in the same area who don’t belong to a franchise group who does the marketing for them.

For the academics (and business consultants) out there, it’s a referral network on the value chain level of marketing with the objective to tap the full potential of a market by bundling specific local area resources from non-competing businesses.

Do you do emergency repairs?

No, that is what drives the prices up.

We provide basic services that services providers can do in their spare time between jobs.

If you shop at Aldi, you may understand what we do and where we are placed in the market for low income earners. If not, if something breakdown there is usually a reason that requires more option so it doesn’t happen again, so for your safety we send it to expert trusted tradies from our local networks.

What if we want more stuff done?

We want repeat business, of course, but don’t do this as a way to get cheaper prices for the work.

We have a no upsell policy in place with all of our contractors that are allocated the jobs, and contractor don’t use the co-op just as a way to get new customers for their main business. For them, it is more of a side gig to help out the local community.

You can ask the service provider to it for you, but they check with us if there is someone allocated to that postcode that already does it. There is no competition or haggling for work, which can be a form of Elder abuse that the Government says we have to prevent if we want to help older customers

Our providers only do the jobs they love, and if they don’t love a job, one of their mates in our co-op will.

The service providers still get the referral fee if you take the job with someone else in our system. They may also give you a discount if we give the job to them (out of their referral fee).

But if you do want the smoked herring paste, not available at Aldi, tell us when we confirm that the job has been done to your satisfaction (required before we pay them).

Do your referral payments add to the costs?

No. Contractors, and customers, or even just friends and family can also make money by referring customers to us if they sign up to our affiliate program.

We don’t just ask you to give us a google review, the referral fee comes from the booking fee as you save us marketing cost, which we pass onto you or the customers if you like.

If you want a better price, you could put your job up on sites Air Tasker, but they also charge similar booking fees, so it doesn’t change our market set rates.

It simply saves us spending money on marketing, but instead of putting it into our own pockets, we give it back to the local community that supports us.

Do the service providers need insurance?

We are a booking service, but also our service providers invoice under their own ABN, and generally have public liability insurance for that already. For some sites, for example, gated communities, the on-site manager may require a higher level of cover. This is another reason why our service providers can’t add on extra work they may not be insured for.

For example, lawn mowing businesses may not be able to trim trees over 3.5m tall, and installation of new replacement products may need to be installed by a qualified person or it may void the new product warranty.

For most of the jobs, it is not a major expense, so not likely to add to the price of the service. But just like buying the tools to do the job, it’s a normal business expense.

We can refer you to qualified tradespeople in our network, but we only book DIY jobs for handyman repairs as an indicator of the three-star budget service we are set up to provide.
