Our Target Customers
Did you know that over 5 million Australians live with a disability, but only around 500,000 people are supported by the NDIS? This leaves a significant number of people who still need help but don’t qualify for the program. Moreover, the demand for aged care is skyrocketing.
Jay Richters, CEO of Together We Care, says “There are currently nearly 70,000 older Australians on the waitlist for home care packages, with many unable to access the help they need for months or even years.”
“Basically, in the current system, the unfortunate situation is someone has to die to make way for someone on the waitlist to enter the program and access the funding for basic services that keep them in their current home” Mr Richters added.
As this list grows daily, and even large care providers are reporting the waitlist has doubled in just the last year (CareVision), it’s clear that new solutions are desperately needed. With smaller care businesses, like Together We Care, educating local networking groups about the danger of waiting for their loved ones to get an assessment, this situation is likely to continue.
At Local Home and Garden Repairs, we want to fill this gap. Our services cater to local residents who are waiting for home care packages or are simply in need of assistance with everyday home and garden tasks. Whether it’s mowing the lawn, fixing a squeaky door, or clearing out the gutters, we’re here to help Logan’s most vulnerable residents maintain their homes and live independently for longer.
How We Operate
We don’t believe in creating affordable services by underpaying our contractors. Instead, we leverage the spare capacity of local tradespeople. Many of the jobs we offer are quick, straightforward tasks for experienced tradies, and they can easily fit these into their schedule on the way home. This allows us to offer affordable prices to pensioners and carers without compromising on quality or fairness to our service providers.
In return, these tradies earn a little extra to help cover the rising costs of living, all while giving back to their local community. By connecting local workers with residents in need, we’re fostering a spirit of cooperation and support within Logan City.
We also need policies and procedures in place to operate in this space to limit the risk of what the Government calls “Elder Abuse”. Elder financial abuse can take many forms and can include repeated or one-off actions, threats or even a lack of action. Financial abuse is often not technically illegal, and carers do genuinely have an older person’s best interests at heart, however, the actions taken may be considered abusive in nature by family outside. If you would like more information on this, here is a list of 10 common forms of elder financial abuse.
Why Logan City?
Logan City has a growing population of older residents and carers in low-rent area who need assistance with everyday tasks. However, as 85% of the dwellings in Logan are detached houses, these are people who want to stay in their homes but often find it difficult to keep up with maintenance. By providing affordable and reliable services, Local Home and Garden Repairs can make a real difference in their lives.
Additionally, as Logan continues to grow, so does the need for flexible job opportunities. Our service model not only helps residents but also supports local tradespeople by providing extra work in their spare time. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.
We plan to start servicing the City of Moreton Bay next as a priority shortly. In an area where the Local Council reports they receive the lowest amount of funding per resident in Southeast Queensland, we are looking to partner with local business networks in the area to meet the huge demand projected from the overwhelming expressions of interest to help families and friends living in the council area.
Get Involved and Spread the Word
Whether you’re a local tradesperson looking for extra work, or you know a neighbour, family member, or friend who could benefit from our services, Local Home and Garden Repairs is here to help. By working together, we can ensure that everyone in Logan City has access to affordable, essential home maintenance services.
